Market Integration and Trade

West Africa Food System Resilience Programme

This component will seek to expand food trade in West Africa to enable an effective distribution of surplus produce to deficit regions and facilitate production and commercialization of agricultural inputs and technologies within and across national borders.


The 2 sub-components are:

Regional Sub-component 3.1 - Facilitate trade across key corridors and consolidate food reserve system: This will support the implementation of sound regional regulations and policies to strengthen the regional agricultural and food input and output markets. 


National Sub-component 3.2 - Support to Development of Strategic Value Chains.

This will support the development of up to three VCs per participating country, focusing on backward and forward segments of priority staple crops and short cycle livestock VCs, with the potential for tangible positive impacts on regional food security. 3.4.4


Intended outcomes include:


a. Improved capacity of relevant institutions (MOFA, MOTI, GSA, etc)

b. Improved post-production activities (equipment & facilities)

c. Improved storage facilities & management at strategic locations,

d. Improved selected border stations

e. Harmonized ECOWAS trade policies

f. Improved trade volumes and values
